Tiny Plays Big Ideas is a new project for West Suffolk primary schools created by Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds.
15 primary schools from across West Suffolk will be offered the opportunity to take part in this project for free thanks to Periscope funding.
This project will provide Yr 6 pupils with a memorable end to their primary school education. In a year full of disruption, tiny plays BIG IDEAs, will provide children with an opportunity to creatively express their thoughts and ideas, to learn new skills and to take part in an end of project celebration with their peers.
Each child will get the opportunity to work with a high-quality, professional playwright to teach them the art of play writing. Children will learn about plot, character, storytelling, drafting and staging during two one-hour workshops, which take place in your school. By the end of these two workshops, each child will have crafted their own short play (under 5 minutes long).
A selection of the resulting 500 plays will be rehearsed and performed by a cast of professional actors on the stage of Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds. Every child participating in the project will be invited to this event to see these tiny, brilliant plays brought to life.
The whole process will be filmed by Suffolk film company Allegro Creative who will document the project in a short behind-the-scenes film which can be shared with friends, family and the rest of the school community.
